DFG Priority Program 1236: 'Strukturen und Eigenschaften von Kristallen bei extrem hohen Drücken und Temperaturen'

Central laser heating facility

Delivery of the optical table (about 250 and 150 kg) on 13.12.2006 and transport into the institute. Thanks to our workshop!

Test and alignment of the CO2-Laser beam in May 2007.

The first experiment we carried out in order to demonstrate successful setting-up of our facility was direct conversion of graphite to a transparent phase. A graphite chip was loaded in the DAC. The pressure on the sample was ~12 GPa. The CO2 laser focused in the DAC (pressure medium KBr). The maximal temperature was estimated to be ~1900°C.
